We will head west from Ulaanbaatar toward Khustai Nuruu National Park, one of Mongolia’s most celebrated conservation areas. Located about 100 kilometers from the capital, this protected area is best known for its successful reintroduction of the Takhi, or Przewalski’s horse — the world’s only truly wild horse. Once extinct in the wild, the Takhi was reintroduced here in the early 1990s and now roams freely across the park’s rolling steppes and birch-covered hills.

Upon arrival, we will first visit the park’s information center to watch a short documentary that introduces the story of the Takhi and the park’s conservation efforts. This gives us a deeper understanding before we head into the heart of the park to explore its varied landscape of forest-steppe, rocky ridges, and river valleys — a rich ecosystem that also supports red deer, marmots, foxes, eagles, and vultures. The Takhi can often be seen grazing in family groups near water sources, their sturdy build and upright manes reflecting their ancient origins and resilience. These horses are a powerful symbol of Mongolia’s nomadic heritage and ecological stewardship.

Lunch will be served at Khustai Nuruu Park, before or after the excursion depending on the wildlife viewing schedule.

After visiting the park and observing the wild Takhi horses in their natural habitat, we will return to Ulaanbaatar in the afternoon, arriving around 17:00, and drop you off at your hotel.
