Galop in Orkhon Valley

Embark on a 9-day horseride through the nomadic lands, including 3 days of self-sufficient travel. The journey will take you to the heart of the Mongol Empire in Kharkhorin, where you can explore the ruins of Genghis Khan's capital. You'll then travel to the lush Orkhon Valley, where the fragrances of thyme and fresh herbs mix together, and the beauty of the landscape is paralleled by the warmth of the locals. Finally, you'll complete the trek in Naiman Nuur Park, where you can relax by the eight serene lakes surrounded by greenery.

Welcome by your guide and your driver at the airport of Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia.

The first day program starts at noon. We start with a lunch with the Mongolian team.

Visit the superb National museum of history , the largest museum in Mongolia where you will learn the great history of Mongolia.

Walk in the city center of Ulaanbaatar and on the main Chinggis Khan Square

The fabulous traditional Mongolian show of Tumen ekh . You will discover Mongolian instruments, traditional dances, religious dances, traditional songs, overtone songs and contortions.

Before leaving Ulaanbaatar, we will be visiting the Gandantegchilen Monastery. This monastery is a significant cultural and religious site in Mongolia and a must-see attraction for tourists. It is located in the heart of Ulaanbaatar and is easily accessible. The monastery is a peaceful and serene place where visitors can witness the daily rituals and practices of the monks. In the main temple, there is a giant Buddha statue that stands 25 meters high.

The adventure starts, and we will go to Kharkhorin, the ancient capital of Mongolia.

Visit to the museum of Kharkhorin, the ancient capital of Mongolia. After creating Mongolia, Genghis Khan wanted to create the world's capital in the Orkhon Valley, but unfortunately, he died before it was built. In 1235, Ugudei, the son of Chinggis Khan, created this city in honor of his father.

Visit to Erdene-zuu Monastery. The 29th descendant of Chinggis Khan, Abtai Khan, wanted to create an extensive monastery but needed help to choose the right place. Then, the 3rd Dalai Lama Sonam Gyatso advised him to build this monastery on the ruins of the ancient capital of Mongolia. In 1586, Abtai Khan then built Erdene-Zuu.

Adventure begins

In the morning, we will meet with the horse guides joining us. They will give us essential tips and guidance on safely navigating the Mongolian horses. It will be important for us to pay attention and follow their instructions closely. Afterward, Herders will select the horses we will be riding for 9 days.

We ride along the Orkhon River in the Orkhon Valley, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Orkhon Valley is a land of nomadism where many breeders settle their summer camps.

By evening, we will reach the edge of the river and establish our tents. It will be a moment to relax and unwind after a day of riding. We should make sure to set up our camp in a safe and comfortable location, taking into consideration factors such as proximity to water and shelter.

Day 4

We're traveling with our new nomadic friends along the Orkhon River and the scenery is stunning. We're surrounded by the vast steppe, which stretches out in all directions in shades of green and gold. The air carries the sweet fragrance of wildflowers on a gentle breeze.

We finally arrive at the Uurtiin Tokhoi, known for its natural sparkling water. The river creates a mesmerizing display of sparkling droplets that catch the light. We take a moment to admire this natural wonder and feel a sense of calm.

Once again, We set up camp by the Orkhon River and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Our conversations fill the air as we gather around the campfire, sharing stories and laughter. The nomadic lifestyle reminds us of the importance of simplicity and connection with nature.

Day 5
Hidden Monastery of Tuvkhun

Tovkhon Monastery

Once we have refueled, we will embark on a thrilling adventure of climbing the mountain on horseback. This unique experience will allow us to soak in the breathtaking scenery while enjoying the excitement of horseback riding.

Overall, it promises to be an action-packed day, combining the thrill of galloping and the adventure of horseback climbing. We will have the opportunity to immerse ourselves in nature and discover the cultural heritage of the Tovkhon Monastery.

Tuvkhun Hermitage was founded by Ondor Gegeen Zanabazar in 1648 on his 19th birthday. The temple complex is built on two mountain platforms. The lower one has several temples, including a small wooden temple, a footprint attributed to the 1st Bogd Gegeen, and a tiny cave where Zanabazar meditated.

Further up the mountain, there is a second platform with a spring and a cave called Ekhiin Khevlii, or "Mother's Womb," where pilgrims crawl inside to be reborn. At the top is an Ovoo and a flat rock called "The Place of Naadam," where Zanabazar created some famous sculptures.

Mongolians believe that entering the "Mother's Womb" hole cleanses bad energy and rejuvenates.

Today, we will be staying with a nomadic family in the Orkhon Valley. Our hosts will welcome us into their traditional guest ger, providing us with a comfortable place to sleep. This unique experience will allow us to learn about the nomadic lifestyle and create unforgettable memories.

We will learn about their culture, traditions, and way of life. We will help them with daily chores such as milking cows, making traditional dairy products, and gathering firewood. We will also be able to ride horses and explore the beautiful landscape. This experience will give us a unique insight into the nomadic way of life and allow us to appreciate the simplicity and beauty of living close to nature.

Day 7
To reach the entrance of Naiman Nuur National Park

We will proceed with taking our horses towards Naiman Nuur National Park - "8 lakes". Our journey will involve riding until we reach the foot of the mountain, where a horse trail will guide us to Naiman nuur Park. Along the way, we will have the chance to cross the rivers and enjoy several opportunities for galloping.

As the evening approaches, we can look forward to the arrival of our Naiman Nuur herders. They will descend from the mountain with their pack yaks, joining us for the night. This will provide a unique opportunity to interact with the herders, learn about their way of life, and experience the presence of the pack yaks.

On the way, we will visit the famous Orkhon Waterfall, which stands at a height of 24 meters. This magnificent waterfall is a sight to behold, with its cascading waters and stunning natural beauty.

Day 8
Arriving in Naiman Nuur National Park

After breakfast, our journey to Naiman Nuur Park will begin. The luggage will be loaded onto the backs of pack yaks, who will accompany us throughout our expedition. The horses will showcase their incredible strength and endurance as we navigate the untamed and high-altitude terrain. It's important to remember that there are no established roads for cars to reach our destination.

The driver will not be able to go to Naiman Nuur. We will meet the driver in two days.

Our first challenge awaits us as we venture into a vast forest. Here, we will be enveloped by the breathtaking beauty of nature and serenaded by the melodies of wildlife. As we press on, we will encounter an area adorned with volcanic stones, adding a distinctive and rugged touch to our expedition. The landscape will then transform into a marshland, offering a contrasting backdrop and the possibility of spotting intriguing wildlife along the way.

Visit Naiman Nuur National Park

We will spend a one more day Naiman Nuur National Park to explore its largest and most stunning lake, Shireet. This lake offers a tranquil atmosphere where we can truly appreciate the beauty of the park. It's worth noting that the park is sparsely populated, with only a few nomadic families residing here alongside their yaks and horses. Due to the high altitude and lack of telephone network, these families live in a remote and disconnected environment.

After our enjoyable and memorable stay in Naiman nuur national park, we will be concluding our time there and embarking on our journey towards Bituut river. Our intention is to dedicate a few days to thoroughly exploring the surrounding area and immersing ourselves in its natural beauty and cultural significance. It is during this time that we will have the opportunity to engage with the local environment, discover hidden gems, and appreciate the unique charm that Bituut river has to offer. Following our enriching exploration, we will then rendezvous with our designated driver as planned, ready to continue our adventure.

On the last day of our horse riding trip, we will be heading back to the nomadic family that graciously hosted us in the heart of the Orkhon Valley.

In the evening, our generous host will prepare a traditional Mongolian dish for us called "Mongolian barbecue made by grilled stone." This unique culinary experience involves grilling meat and vegetables on hot stones, creating a delicious and flavorful meal.

After dinner, it will be time for us to bid farewell to our horse guides, with whom we have spent an incredible nine days. These guides have been our companions throughout our journey, leading us through the breathtaking landscapes of Mongolia and sharing their knowledge and expertise. Saying goodbye to them will be bittersweet, as we have formed a special bond during our time together.

Once we have bid farewell to the breeders, we will make our way back to our 4x4s. Our next destination will be Khogno Khan National Park , which is also known as mini-Gobi. This park boasts a diverse range of landscapes, including a lake, sand dunes that stretch for 80km, trees, and mountains.

We will explore the beautiful sand dunes of Elsen Tasarkhai, walking atop the soft sand and marveling at the stunning views.

Once we have arrived and settled into our ger camp, we will have the opportunity to explore the 18th century Erdene khamba monastery and take a leisurely stroll through the sand dunes. For those who are interested, there is also the option to ride a camel.

Back to Ulaanbaatar. As we drive, we witness the last herds of wild horses crossing the road, leaving us in awe. The distant gers with smoke rising from them mark the end of our time on the steppe.

Upon our arrival in the town, we will check into the hotel and take some time to rest.

We will arrive in Ulaanbaatar in the afternoon. This is an opportunity to do some last souvenir shopping. Your guide will help you find the necessary shops for your desires: souvenirs, cashmere, and small Mongolian objects.
