Eagle Hunters

For centuries, the ancient art of using majestic eagles to hunt and catch prey has been a revered tradition among the nomadic tribes of Central Asia. Even Marco Polo documented the awe-inspiring sight of large birds of prey being kept by Koublai Khan. Today, this time-honored sport continues to thrive, primarily practiced in the captivating landscapes of Bayan-Ölgii, a region nestled in the heart of Mongolia. Here, visitors have the unique opportunity to witness and engage with the Kazakh hunters as they captivate and train these magnificent birds. The most enchanting time to experience this centuries-old tradition is during the vibrant Eagle Festival, held at the beginning of October in the city of Ölgii.
